One of Protect’s easiest to use functions — live chat — is also one of the most powerful tools when it comes to supporting user safety. A recent example of a Protect subscriber using live chat in the subway helps bring this point home.

A Protect subscriber in New York City recently witnessed a person behaving inappropriately and disrupting services on the subway. The subscriber discreetly connected with Protect Agent Christopher in a chat-only call to share what was happening. Agent Christopher gathered a description of the person of interest; the subway station from which they boarded the train; and the train car number they were on. Then, he made sure the caller had moved to a different train car for their own safety.

As the subscriber continued their commute underground and lost cellular connection intermittently, the agent seamlessly relayed the information to The New York City Transit Police Department without issue. He alerted the nearby Citizen network, providing updates to the caller via chat the entire time. Agent Christopher also monitored the subscriber until they confirmed they had safely left the subway and met with their partner.

This incident is a reminder of how the Citizen’s technology and our Protect features can help supercharge existing 911 services. Given the intermittent cell connection on transit, Citizen Protect’s live chat feature helped this user and other commuters in a timely way.
